Vern E. Ritchie, 72, of 4254 N. Oberlin Rd., Gladwin, died Friday, March 15, in Tolfree Hospital, West Branch, after a long illness. Born in Gladwin December 31, 1912, he had spent his lifetime here. He farmed and worked for Fisher Assembly in Flint for 17 years until retiring in 1970. Mr. Ritchie was married to the former Lila VanHorn, May 20, 1939 in Midland.

Besides his wife, he is survived by 4 sons, Thomas of Bellaire, Michael of Warren, Stephen of Harrison, and Vern of Sterling Heights, 2 daughters, Mrs. Pierce (Sonjia) Hock of Gladwin and Mrs. Dennis (Beth) Elliott of Beaverton, one brother, William of Gladwin, 2 sisters, Edna Brown of Gladwin and Ida Myers of Swartz Creek, 24 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Services were held Monday at 1 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel. The Rev. Roy Glasgow officated and burial was in the Highland Cemetery. Gladwin County Record dated 3-20/1985 Column – 2 Page – 2.
