Miss Kitty Winks Winston as she was known was quite a fixture in Hanover County. She was a local historian and she also wrote a social column in the Herald-Progress newspaper for a number of years.
Daughter of Dr. Bickerton Lyle Winston and his wife, Fanny Byrd.

Obit from Hanover Herald-Progress:
Miss Kitty dies at 98
"A renown Hanover Courthouse resident, Miss Frances Byrd Winston- known to most as "Miss Kitty" died Sunday, Nov. 26 at age 98.
Miss Kitty and her late sister, Miss Jo, were well-known, in their day, as indominable characters who made wide contributions to the history and lore of the area.
Miss Kitty was a member of the UDC, DAR and the Hanover Hist. Soc., a life-long member of St. Paul's Church; a founding member of the Hanover Women's Club, a columnist for 25 years with the Herald-Progress; and an employee of the Pamunkey Regional Library.
"She was truly from a by-gone era" said a friend.
Memories of the sisters often concern their own special styles.
Miss Jo used to smoke a pipe for effect, it was said, she would tell puns in Latin, and it was every man for himself when she drove the roads.
Cousin to Miss Nellie Pillsbury, of the Pillsbury Baking Company, Miss Kitty would come into the local bank, in her day, with a bushel basket of mail and ask one of the employees to go through it to "see what's trash." It gave the folks in the bank the chills, a friend recounted, to find checks for thousands of dollars in with the rest of her third rate mail.
Miss Kitty was bright, well-read, and used a particular dialect, which apparently became a trademark along with her direct, no-nonsense approach.
She is survived by three nieces: Zoe Tedford, of Detroit; Fontaine Winston, of Florida; and Kennon Winston Komer, of California; and one nephew, Frank M. Winston of Tarrisburg, W. Va." (written by J. Malcom Pace)

Miss Kitty Winston never married. She lived all her life with her sister Josephine ("Miss Jo") mostly at the Winston home "Wilton" in Hanover County. She passed away at "Wilton."
