Last Sunday about 5 p.m. our citizens were saddened by the announcement of the death of one of our oldest citizens, John R. Davis. Mr. Davis had been a patient sufferer for several months, but his death was unexpected, as he was up and able to walk around. Mr. Davis was one of Gonzales county's earliest settlers, having moved here in 1885 and had lived at his home where he died, His kindness and thoughtfulness won him many friends and he was highly esteemed and universally liked. His remains were laid to rest in the Thompsonville cemetery Monday. Mr. Davis leaves a wife, a number of relatives and a host of friends who mourn his death.
