John E. Barber Sr., 77, of Decatur died 12:19 am. Saturday (Feb. 6, 1988) in St Mary's hospital. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in J.J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home with visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Illini Cemetery, Warrensburg. Memorials: American Heart Association or Diabetes Foundation.
Mr. Barber was born in Jacksonville, son of Bert C. and Leona May Barber. He was a painter for the Wabash Railroad and Norfolk & Western Railway for 30 years. He was a charter member of Soy City Breakers CB Club, member of Norfolk & Western Painters Lodge 277, Norfolk & Western Fellowship Club and was affiliated with Second Church of God. He married Agnes Marie Rutledge in 1932.
Surviving are his wife; sons, John Jr. of Shelbyville; Donald Lee of Homosassa Springs, Fla.; Richard of Decatur; Ray of Chicago; daughters, Joan Pierson of Homosassa Springs; Kay Stark of Decatur; brother, Fletcher Franklin of Murphysboro; sisters, Pauline Bray; Juanita Mclntyre of Corpus Christi, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. One brother, three half brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
