Died, at the family residence, near Cotton Hill, at 4 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 1904, of heart trouble, Henry Shoup, aged 82 years. Mr. Shoup was one of Sangamon county's early settlers, having lived here all his life. He was a familiar figure at the Sangmon county old settlers' reunions until during the past two or three years, since when he has been confined to his home the greater part of the time.

He is survived by his wife, five sons and two daughters: Elbert of Springfield; Jacob of Pawnee and Elijah, Lee and Samuel, residing at home, and Mrs. James Milner and Mrs. Leonard Lawley, who live in Ball township. The funeral will take place from the Baptist church near Cotton Hill Saturday, the Rev. Philemon Stout, a lifelong friend of the deceased, officiating.
