Charles City Iowa Press, Friday Nov. 29, 1940:

Alfred E. Laun, AGE 63, lifelong resident of Floyd County, passed away suddenly at his home one-half mile north of Floyd Wednesday evening at 9:45 o'clock. Mr. Laun has been having a series of slight heart attacks for at least two weeks and suffered a severe one about four o' clock in the afternoon Wednesday from which he did not rally.

Mr Laun has been prominent in the activities in and around Floyd for many years having moved into that facility in 1907. For many years he drove a school bus for the Floyd school. He was a member of the Floyd Methoidst church and the woddman lodge.

Alfred Eugene Laun was born April 2, 1877 in Ulster Township to Ewald and Chirstina Scherf Laun. In 1900 he was united in marriage to Sarah White in Ulster Township. To this union were born two children, Vernon who passed away in 1916 at the age of 16 & Alice who survives and is now teaching in the Sheldon Schools. In addition Mr. Laun leaves two sisters, Mrs. L.E. Reed of Charles City and Mrs. Emma Holthaus of Earville, Iowa, and one brother C.E. (Chuck) Laun of Charles City. Three brothers & one sister proceeded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Saturday 2:00 at the Floyd Methoidst Church. The Rev Wesley C. Harrop will officiate and internment will be made in Oakwood Cemetery, Floyd.
