On Saturday, January 20, 1962, MARY MORGAN PURDON, formerly of 3600 Connecticut Ave, NW, beloved wife of the late Eric St. Clair Purdon. Mother of Cmdr. Eric S. Purdon of Harwood, Md, and Mrs Frederick Gutheim of Mount Ephraim, Dickerson, Md; sister of Mrs Jonathan W. Anderson of Alexandria, Va, and Mrs Edith M. Cabell of 3600 Connecticut Ave, NW, Washington DC. She also is survived by three grandsons and one granddaughter. Services at Fort Myer Chapel, Ft. Myer, VA, Tuesday, January 23, at 11 a.m. Interment Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements by Tyson Wheeler Funeral Home.

Mrs. Eric St. C. Purdon.
WASHINGTON DC - Mrs. Mary Morgan Purdon, a former Chief Librarian in several Army jobs, died Saturday in Forest Glen, Maryland. She was 78. Mrs. Purdon was graduated from Western High School here and attended the University of Minnesota before moving to the Philippine Islands, where her father, the late Colonel George H. Morgan, a Congressional Medal of Honor winner, was stationed. She was married to Eric St. Clair Purdon, a businessman and British consul in Ilollo, Panay, Philippine Islands. Following her husband's death in 1914, Mrs. Purdon returned to the United States, but soon went to Great Britain, where she was graduated from the Petherbridge School in London.
After her training at the school, she joined General John J. Pershing's AEF Headquarters, where she was placed in charge of the clerical office force. She returned to the States again in 1919 to become the first director of women personnel for the J. P. Morgan Company in New York.
Later she returned to Washington and became the librarian of the Army's Chief of Staff's Office in the Pentagon, followed by similar position at the Industrial War College at Fort McNair, Virginia. She retired in 1947.
Mrs. Purdon was a member of the Army Daughters of America, the DC Library Association and Kappa Kappa Gamma. She leaves a son, Commander Eric S. Purdon, Harwood, MD; a daughter, Mrs. Frederick Gutheim, Dickerson, MD; two sisters, Mrs. Jonathan W. Anderson and Mrs. Edith M. Cabell, both of 3600 Connecticut Avenue, NW; three grandsons and one granddaughter.
