Robert Gus Tucker, 82, Centre Rt. 3, died Wednesday in Cherokee County Hospital following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Perry Funeral Home Chapel, Centre, with Elders Ted Price and Howard Cook officiating. Burial in Cherokee Memory Gardens. Survivors: wife, Mrs. Bessie Nicholson Tucker; sons, R. G. Tucker, Jr., Titusville, Fla., H.L. Tucker, Warner Robins, Ga., daughters, Mrs. Thelma Odam, Mrs. Dot Dobbs, Mrs. Emmie Bell, Mrs. Eva Mae Hill, all of Centre, Mrs. Jo Reece, Lithia Springs, Ga., Mrs. Wilma Sue Maroney, Gadsden; brother, Luther Tucker, Gadsden; sisters, Mrs. Evie Payne, Mrs. Frances Warren, Mrs. Shirley Harris, all of Gadsden, Mrs. Emma Phillips, Glencoe, Mrs. Onie Tallent, Centre; 31 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. Mr. Tucker was a native of Georgia and resided in Cherokee County most of his life. He was a member and deacon of the Primitive Baptist Church and a retired farmer. The body will remain at the funeral home through the hour of service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 this evening. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the heart or cancer fund.
