John and Mary farmed in Lincoln Township for eight years and went through hardships, such as the grasshopper plague, which ruined the farmer's crops. After leaving the farm in Lincoln township, they moved to Le Mars, where Mr. Luken and H.S. Payn went into the lumber business (where the M. A. Moore company now is). Mr. Payn and Mr. Luken remained in the lumber business for five years and then sold it to Le Mars dealers. Since that time Mr. Luken has invested in South Dakota land, but still remaining in Le Mars, living at 327 First Avenue NE.
