Roman Catholic Cardinal. A native of Paderno Dugnano, Agostino Gaetano Riboldi was ordained priest in Milan in August 1861. Professor of physics and mathematics at the seminary of Monza between 1861 and 1877, he was charged by the archbishop of Milan with the restoration of the bodies of Saints Ambrose, Gervaise and Protase. Elected bishop of the diocese of Pavia, he received his episcopal consecration on April 22, 1877. Founder of the scientific journal "Rivista di Scienze Fisiche e Matematiche", he was promoted to the metropolitan see of Ravenna on April 15, 1901, succeeding Cardinal Sebastiano Galeati. Created cardinal priest by Pope Leo XIII in the consistory of April 15, 1901 with the title of Ss. Nereo ed Achilleo, Riboldi died on April 25, 1902, in Ravenna, aged 63, suddenly, after having celebrated the 25th anniversary of his episcopal consecration. Exposed in the metropolitan cathedral of Ravenna, his body was buried in the cemetery of Pavia.
