The Winters Express Friday December 24, 1937 Page 1- ORRIN POWERS SUMMONED

Funeral services directed by W.C. McNary were held in the church of the Nazarene Wednesday for Orrin Powers, aged 84, native of Massachusetts. Powers died Monday from infirmities of age after a lingering illness. He came to California from Illinois, settling first at Corning, later in Winters where he has had a permanent home since 1915. His wife Sarah Powers died in 1923. Last October he was married to Mrs. Leota Cross who is his only survivor.
Powers was a skilled carpenter and followed his trade industriously until age and illness forced him to give up active labor. Greatly handicapped by deafness, he found quiet pleasure in his books and garden and few close friends.
Rev, Vernon Lee, Nazarene pastor conducted last rites, assisted by Rev. Eustace Anderson, Methodist pastor. Music was offered by members of the church choir.
Casket bearers were J.W. Finney, H.E.Mermod, J.F. and G,M, Vasey, Harry Mason, W.A. Perkins. Interment was made in Masonic Cemetery.
