French Nobility. Due to his place of birth he was also known as Alphonse d'Acre. His parents were John of Brienne, titular king of Jerusalem and his third wife Berenguela of Castile-Leon. He was grand chamberlain of France and accompanied Louis IX on all his campaigns. He died on the same day as the king before the gates of Tunis of the plague. With his marriage to Marie de Lusignan he became Count of Eu. They had two children; Blanche became abbess of Maubuisson in 1309 and John succeeded his parents in the county of Eu.
