Husband of Hannah (Ballew) Stanley (1826-1878). Father of seven children. Son of Andrew Stanley and Sarah (Cain) Stanley. Hiram was a Captain in the 3rd Missouri State Militia Cavalry, Co. G. This regiment would go on to become the 7th Missouri State Militia. Hiram's brother-in-law, William B. Ballew, was also a Captain in the 3rd Missouri SM Cav., Co G and would become a Captain in the 7th Missouri SM Cav. Co. K.

Hiram's son, Eben Stanley, would go on to join the US Army and win the Congressional Medal of Honor for his gallantry during the Indian Wars. Eben's third wife was Mary Elsie Clanton, the sister of Ike and Billy Clanton of the Clanton Gang who were famous for their presence at the shootout at the OK Corral with Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday.
