John C. Stoops, aged 75, for many years an oil producer in Butler county, died at his home in Fairview township, at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon.
Mr. Stoops was born in Washington township and was a life long resident of Butler county. He was engaged in the oil business for many years and in 1903 purchased a farm in Fairview township where he has since resided.
In 1887 he was united in marriage to Miss Bessie A. Hillard, who preceded him in death, April 11, 1931.
Surviving are a son, Stephen S. Stoops of Petrolia, R.F.D. 1; four daughters, Mrs. Helen Williams of Petrolia, Miss Clara Belle Stoops, R.N., at home, Mrs. Bertha Myers of Butler, Mrs. Lois Williams of Petrolia; nine grandchildren, a brother, Henry P. Stoops of Karns City; and three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hilliard of West Sunbury, Mrs. Sarah Morris and Miss Emmeline Stoops of North Washington.
Funeral services will be held from the family home at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon with the Rev. R. C. Sherrard, pastor of the Fairview United Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be in the Bear Creek cemetery.
