She came to western Nebraska with her parents about 1880. In 1882 the family was in northwestern Nebraska where they were involved in a Sioux uprising, during which they were forted up in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. They then went to Frontier County and homesteaded land near the Dilatory Ranch.
