Enlisted as a 1st Sergeant on 19 January 1862 in Co. E, 13th Pennsylvania Cavalry.

Commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on 15 November 1864; however, he was not federally mustered at that rank.

Mustered Out on 19 Jan 1865.


Was tragically killed on 14 May 1869 when the warehouse of Joseph S. Finch and Co. Distillery located in the Southside section of Pittsburgh, collapsed and trapped him in the debride.
