SANTA ROSA, Calif. -- Harry Blackstone III, son and grandson of famous magicians, has died from head injuries he suffered when a the bed of a pickup truck he was working on crashed down on him.
Memorial services were set for Saturday at the First Congregational Church in Redlands, Calif.
Blackstone, 25, lead singer for 'White Lightning,' a rock group that uses illusions and fireworks in its act, was working part time as a mechanic to sustain his entertainment career, his mother, Gay Blackstone, said.
He had been on a life support system since the bed of a dump truck fell on him Aug. 14 at Montecito Texaco and Auto Repair, near his home. He died Thursday.
Blackstone was the son of magician Harry Blackstone and grandson of 'The Great Blackstone,' one of the world's greatest musicians who worked during the 1920s.
A Texas native who attended high school in Redlands, the younger Blackstone was a singer, songwriter and dancer and had appeared with Liberace, Eydie Gorme and the Mike Curb Congregation. He performed in 1972 at President Richard Nixon's White House inauguration and later for King Hussein of Jordan.
'He was the only son and heir to the Blackstone name,' said the young man's grandmother, M. Irene Gillick. 'It's over as far as the Blackstones are concerned.'
Blackstone leaves his father, mother, grandparents and four sisters. All live in Redlands.
