Football Coach. Bennie Owen was head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners from 1905 to 1926, amassing a record of 122 victories, 54 losses, and 16 ties, making him the first of four OU coaches to win over one hundred games(no other FBS football program has more than three coaches with 100 victories). He is known for introducing the forward pass to football in the Southwest, as well as for the prolific scoring by his teams. Owen Field, where the Sooners play their home games, is named for him. In addition to his football duties, Owen also coached the basketball team for thirteen seasons, with a record of 113 wins and 49 losses. Owen was a charter member of the College Football Hall of Fame along with Walter Camp, Knute Rockne, Amos Alonzo Stagg, and Pop Warner.
