William H. Mathias, 74, well known retired Plains District farmer and a native of Hardy County, W.Va., died today at noon at his home near Cootes Store after a lingering illness. Death was due to complications.

Mr. Mathias had been in failing health for several months. His condition became critical four weeks ago.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock from the Tunis Mennonite Church. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Hopkins Turner. Interment will be in Tunis Cemetery.

William Franklin Bowman(1879-1949),
Albert Runion(1890-1958), H.A. Tusing,
Sidney Allen Stroop(1871-1939), and
Amos Monroe "Amiss" Runion(1869-1953)

Mr. Mathias was born in Hardy County, near Mathais where he spent his early life. During his mid twenties, he married Miss. Sarah Strawderman of Cootes Store, who survives.

He was engaged in farming for many years in the Brock Gap section, where he was well known. He was a man of high character and had the respect of all who knew him.

Besides his wife he is survived by six sons, Jesse, Walter, William, and Roy Mathias, of Tiffin, Ohio, and Joseph and Lewis Mathias of Cootes Store, and six daughters, Mrs. W.A. Wilt and Mrs. Bryan Whitmore, of Tiffin, Ohio, Mrs. George Fadeley, of Wytheville, Mrs. M.W. Rinker, of Falls Church, Mrs. Grover Dillard and Mrs. Lee Biller, of Cootes Store.
