US Congressman. He graduated from Andover Academy in Andover, Massachusetts and moved to Camden, Maine in 1809, where he became a successful merchant. He served in the Massachusetts Militia during the War of 1812, joining Forte's Regiment as an Ensign and advancing to Colonel. He became Lincoln County Deputy Sheriff in 1821 and Sheriff of newly-organized Waldo County in 1827, and served as Camden's Postmaster from 1830 to 1833. In 1832 he was a successful Jacksonian candidate for the US House of Representatives and served two terms, 1833 to 1837. During his House service Hall was Chairman of the Committee on Expenditures in the Department of the Navy. After leaving Congress he returned to Camden and resumed his duties as Postmaster, serving until 1838 when he accepted federal appointments in Boston, serving as Measurer in the Custom House from 1838 to 1846 and Naval Agent from 1846 to 1849. He was an unsuccessful candidate for Boston Mayor in 1849, afterwards purchasing a farm in Camden. In 1857 he returned to Boston's Custom House as Weigher, where he served until his death.
