In 1881 Edward was in the household of Napoleon Girard a shoemaker, and Edward was listed as Apprentice.

In 1887 Troy Vermont, Edward married Melvina Caron. They move back and forth (Canada and Vermont) some of their children are born in both place.

By 1900 they are living in Westfield Vermont. Edward is age 33, said born July 1866, married 12 yrs. and is a laborer in a saw mill, Melvina is age 31 and said born April 1869 and the mother of 6 with 5 living. Children in household: Annis (aka Anna) b Mar 1890 Vt age 10, Willie (William) b Mar 1893 Vt age 7, Eva b Apr 1894 Vt age 6, Pheba (aka Emma) b Oct 1895 Canada age 4, and Hellen (aka Eva) b Apr 1898 Canada age 2.

By 1910 Melvina is still in Westfield with her kids and Edward is gone. They have separated and eventually will divorce. Stories of the family say Edward remarried to Bessie Putnam before he actually was divorced from Melvina.

Edward does show in the 1920 census of Putney, Vermont, he isn't remarried yet, but has a 76 year old housekeeper living with him. He is a fireman in a paper mill. Edward marries second to Bessie Putnam on Aug 30, 1921, they have a daughter Ida May whom was born and died on Oct 26, 1921. It is not know what happened to Bessie.

By 1930 Melvina is now in Montgomery Vermont. Some of her children stay in that area.

Edward isn't found in the 1930 census.

Edward Gilbeau died in 1936 at the age 71 years, 5 mos., 27 days in Colchester Vermont, said he was born in Canada.

Burial was to be in Canada.
