He was born April 7, 1916 in Morgan, a son of Sanford Orin and Anna Eliza Peterson Porter.
He married DeVere (Dee) Simper on June 22, 1940 in Morgan, Utah. He attended Richville school and graduated from Morgan High School. He was a member of the LDS Church and was a High Priest and a home teacher. He had worked as ward fiance clerk and also in the MIA. He was co-owner and operator of Porter Livestock, Inc. and owner of Porter Mink Ranch, retiring in 1985. He had served as Morgan City Councilman, Mayor of Morgan City for two terms and Morgan County Commissioner. He was past president of Morgan Lions Club, chairman of the Morgala Days Rodeo, on the planning committee of Riverside Park, chairman of Morgan County Bicentennial and active in the Morgan County Senior Citizens.
Surviving are his wife, Morgan; two sons, Ronald C. Porter, Morgan; Dennis D. Porter, El Paso, Texas; three grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Reed (Anona) Dickson, Morgan; Mrs. Vern (Wanda) Sherman, Georgia; he was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday in the Morgan Stake Center Chapel with Bishop Robert Memmott officiating. Friends may call at Walker Mortuary in Morgan on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and on Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Interment: South Morgan Cemetery.
