Colmore was a farmer and also the founder of an early Vienna electric power plant. After the death of his wives, he lived with his sister Ella Upton May for several years prior to her death in 1951. He was a prolific crocheter in his later years.

Colmore Upton, 88, a retired farmer and founder of an early Vienna electric power plant, died Thursday in Metropolis. Funeral will be today at the Murrie Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial will follow in Vienna Paternal Cemetery.
Mr. Upton was born in Boos Ill., July 28, 1871. He moved to Vienna in 1921.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Maude Gammill of Mattoon and Mrs. Maggie Syler of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons, Earl of Vienna and Thomas of Long Beach, Calif.; a stepson, W. B. Elam of Calvert City, Ky., and a stepdaughter, Cora Shoaf of LaFayette Ind.
