Premier of Quebec. Born in Danville, Quebec, Johnson studied law at the Séminaire de Ste-Hyacinthe and the University of Montreal before he was admitted to the bar in 1940. Joining the Union Nationale Party, he was elected to Quebec's Legislative Assembly representing the Bagot region in 1946. In 1956 he was appointed Minister of Hydraulic Resources in the cabinet of Quebec Premier Maurice Duplessis, serving until 1960. Becoming leader of the Union Nationale in 1961, he was elected the 20th Premier of Quebec five years later in 1966. On September 26, 1968, Johnson was touring the Manic 5 dam in Manicouagan, Quebec when he suffered a fatal heart attack at the age of 53. His sons, Pierre-marc and Daniel Jr., would also serve brief terms as Premier of Quebec in 1985 and 1994 respectively.
