Art Collector and Philanthropist. Lucy Truman Aldrich was born in Providence, Rhode Island on October 23, 1869, the eldest surviving child of Senator Nelson Wilmarth Aldrich and his wife, Abigail Pearce Truman (Chapman) Aldrich. She was a sister of Abigail "Abby" (Aldrich) Rockefeller, the wife of John Davison Rockefeller, Jr., and Winthrop W. Aldrich, who served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Court of St. James under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Congenitally deaf, she was educated privately and at Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Connecticut. Aldrich traveled extensively in Europe and Asia. She was an avid art collector, primarily collecting porcelain and Asian textiles. A large portion of her collection was donated to the Rhode Island School of Design Museum where she was a member of its Museum Committee. She never married and died in Providence on January 12, 1955.
