Chuck Sutton, heir to a family legacy of leadership, received his first award for activism at 12 during a Joske's department store (San Antonio) boycott. He was Co-Executive Producer and writer for "It's Showtime at the Apollo" and contributed to the launching of UPTIGHT magazine. He was the nephew of renown Harlem leader, Percy Ellis Sutton and the late Oliver Sutton, New York Supreme Court Judge, Essie Sutton and the brother of Dr. Alexander C. Sutton, Jr., Lura Sutton Sims, Cecil, Norman, Sharon, Chere and Nancy Sutton; Carl, Keith and Karen Hays. He was preceded in death by his father, the Reverend Alexander Carver Sutton, Sr., mother Lura Nolan-Sutton and former wife Janet Hedmann-Sutton. Mourning his passing are wife Patricia Moore-Sutton; children, Yusef Fanon, Amina Mae Hedmann, Clifton Rolett II and Patrick Wesley; cousin, Jemmin Sargeant and numerous relatives, extended family and friends.
