She is said to have had a majestic appearance and was so beautiful when she was young that most people were uncomfortable in her presence.
Obedience was the daughter of Capt. Joseph Motley and Martha Ellington.
Capt. Joseph Motleys' father was born in Wales in 1690 and was in Gloucester County, Virginia in 1720.
He married Elizabeth Forrest in 1720, a daughter of Abraham Forrest.
Elizabeth was born in 1700 in Gloucester County, VA. and died after 1792 in Amelia County, VA.
Joseph, her husband died in 1767 in Amelia County, Va.

Her father served with Col. George Washington during the French and Indian wars and was with him at the time of Braddocks' defeat.
Biddy survived three wars, the Rev. War, the French & Indian War and the Civil War.
A pair of socks a day for the soldiers was her self-appointed task.
Her mother was stabbed and killed by Tories while her father was away at war.
She always had an open door for strangers and orphans as she had lost her mother when she was a young girl and knew how it felt.

She was the mother of Prudence Morehead, who married Pryor Reynolds.
Biddys' 3rd daughter, Anne Morehead married Samuel Augustus Hobson in 1831, he was born in 1802.
He died in 1862 in the Civil War. He was a Lieut.
They lived at their homestead called "Wildwood" in Jerusalem, N.C.
Their Son, James Turner Morehead was a Major in the army. He built a home in Spray, in Rockingham County, N.C. which his daughter named "As You Like It."
