Chauncey was the 1st child of Phoebe Gaylord and Levi Frisbie. He had 5 siblings: Levi, Laura, Catharine, Levi Randall (died at 3 months) and Zebulon. The family was living in Bristol, CT, then moved to Orwell, Pennsylvania when he was 13. There they lived very sparsely on a farm in a log cabin. He had enough education to teach at home on the farm, teaching during the winter for several years.

He first married Chloe Howard March 17, 1812. They had 2 children: Hanson Zebulon and Phebe Maria. When Chole died in 1826 a few months after having twins, Chauncey married Elizabeth "Eliza" Humphrey (widow of Dr. Dudley Humphrey). They married on February 14, 1827. They had 2 children: George Chauncey and Rachel.

Chauncey spent his life in farming and acquired a fair competence, owning at one time three hundred acres of land, a part of which he cleared with his own hands. The same property was (1878) owned by his son George Firsbie, who has erected a fine, commodious residence in the village of Orwell.
In politics he was in early life a Federalist, but after the election of President Andrew Jackson he was an unswerving Democrat till his death. He was active in political affairs, and held several important offices. He was at one time treasurer of Bradford couny, and he was also a justice of the peace for thirty-three years and a postmaster at Orwell.
He and his wife were prominent members of the Presbyterian Church of Orwell, himself an elder for thirty-five years. They are still remembered for their consistent Christian lives and for their liberal support of the religioius and benevolent work of the Church. He was noted for his integrity of purpose and his scrupulously honest dealings.

Chauncey Frisbie died May 2, 1863, honored and respected by all who knew him.
