My Grandmother, Louise Tillman was born, raised and lived her entire life in South Mobile County. The fifth of six children she was raised by her father after her mother died from the flu epidemic when she was just 6 years old. Most men would have remarried just to have help with so many children but her father, Rob Pendarvis never remarried and raised his children on his own. Louise married Decatur (NMN) "Boots" Tillman and they had five children, Clementine (Tenna) McInvale, Donald (Bobo) Tillman, Jerry Tillman (my dad), Leona Broadus and Gail Shirah. Boots died in February 1961 just 2 months before my birth so I never got to meet him. Grandma Louise never remarried. She worked for the Mobile County School Board as a janitor until her retirement.
