She was 10 years old when the family moved to Pennsylvania. They travelled on an ox sled from Connecticut. Crossing rives on ice, a grueling trip. Once there, they were out in the wilderness....no roads, only a vast forest. When Laura was only 14, she taught 8 children, during the summer, in the first school in this area.
Laura married Ira Bronson on August 28, 1814 in Burlington, Connecticut. They didn't have any children of their own, but did adopt Laura's sister's (Catharine) child, Laura Eastabrooks after Catharine died at 30 years old, in 1822. Young Laura attended boarding school while in Bristol, CT. In 1839 the family moved to Orwell, PA, buying a great deal of land and building in 1840 a new home.
They also took in Ira's brother's 4 children due to his brother's death. They were Lyman, Samuel, Cynthia and Perinthia.
