Dr. Anderson grew up in Christian County and married Gladys Juanita Scruggs on May 26, 1935 in Jefferson City, Missouri. One daughter was born to this union. Mrs. Anderson passed away on February 5, 2000.

He was also a member of the Rotary Club and Masonic Lodge.
Dr. Anderson enjoyed being outdoors, especially when gardening and fishing. He also enjoyed shooting pool and woodcarving, and he always had time to visit with his many friends and neighbors. He had wintered in Florida for the past twenty-seven years.
He survived by his daughter, Ann Morgan of Ormond Beach, Florida; two grandchildren, Steven Morgan of Sanford, Florida, and Cheryl Gama of Captain Hook, Hawaii; one great-grandson, Noah Morgan of Sanford, Florida; two brothers, Byrl Anderson of Cabool, Missouri and Grayston Anderson of Bull Shoals, Arkansas; one sister, Ineze Hughes of Springfield, Missouri; and a host of other relatives and friends.
