Jessie Robbins Wood, 84, 406 E. Main St., Greensburg, died in the Decatur County Memorial Hospital Monday, March 2, 1987, at 11:11 a.m., after a fall at her home.
She was born Aug. 2, 1902, southeast of Greensburg on her home place, the daughter of Will H. and Cora Sefton Robbins. She spent most of her life in Greensburg, and had resided on East Main Street for many years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg, Chapter T of the PEO Sisterhood, The Hanover Women's Association of Hanover College, the Auxiliary Chapter of Psi Iota Xi, and the Greensburg Senior Citizens. She was a charter member of the Decatur County Historical Society, and active in community affairs for many years.
She attended Tudor Hall School in Indianapolis, and completed her education at Miss Mason's School, "Castle on the Hudson," at Tarrytown, N.Y. She traveled in the Orient Africa, Europe, Mexico and Alaska.
She is survived by one brother W. Hunter Robbins, R.R.7, Greensburg; three nephews: Dr. W. James Mendenhall, E. Thomas Barnes and William H. Robbins, all of Greensburg; and two nieces: Mrs. Wayne (Wilouise Barnes) Alley, Evansville, and Mrs. John (Janet Jo Robbins) Bubb, Houston, Texas.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Floyd (Willa R.) Barnes, who died in 1975, and one brother who died in infancy.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, Greensburg, with the Rev. F. William Clemenson officiating. Burial will be in South Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The family suggests that memorials go to the favorite charity of the donor.
