Roscoe Lloyd Barrett, 81, of Norman died Wednesday, April 11, at Norman Regional Hospital after a sudden illness. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Phil Fenn presiding. Primrose Funeral Home is handling arrangements. After the memorial service, Col. Barrett will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

He was born July 4, 1925, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Roscoe Lloyd "Tex" Barrett and Irma Hammett Barrett. He served in the Korean War and was awarded the Silver Star Medal and the Purple Heart for wounds received. For his service as a platoon leader of the 3d Battalion during Operation Ripper, he was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a second Silver Star Medal. He also served in Okinawa in 1956 and in Vietnam 1967-1968

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Elizabeth Oliver; and his wife of over 50 years, Evanell Johnson Barett.

He is survived by his son, his wife and two grandchildren.

The family requests donations in his memory to be made to the Veterans Center in Norman or the American Cancer Society.
