William was a native of Lincolnshire in England, and he was educated at Oxford University. He immigrated sometime in the late 1850's, joining his older brothers, James Jr. & George in Illinois. He worked at times for both, Clerking in various businesses of theirs, and finally settling in Red Cloud NE w/bro George. He married Emma J Lyon, they had 3 daughters and one son.

Their home in Red Cloud is still known as the "Ducker Home", and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Known as "the Englishman", William Ducker had a fine library, and was an early mentor to Pulitzer Prize Winning Author, WILLA CATHER...and he is often credited in her Bio's as her tutor in Greek & Latin. She and others in town often referred to him as 'Uncle Will'.
