He was born January 4, 1921 in Richland County the son of John E. and Mae (West) and remained a lifelong area resident. He was graduated from Ontario High School.
A U.S. Navy Veteran, Bob served in World War II as an Aviation Machinist.
On February 11, 1945 he married Kathryn L. "Katie" Ness with whom he celebrated 64 years.
Bob worked for Westinghouse over 44 years, and drove school bus part time for the Lexington School District.
Robert was a long time member and served as past commander of Robert L. Castor Post #5101, Irvin Hiskey Post #535 American Legion, and also Pebble Creek Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn L. "Katie" Baker; four children and their spouses, Kenneth Baker of Des Moines, Iowa, Wanda and Bill Swick of Bucyrus, John H. and Diane Baker of Columbus, Kay Carter Finn and Robert Finn of Olathe, Kansas; a daughter-in-law, Charlotte Baker of Lexington; sixteen grandchildren and their spouses, Robert L. and Polly Baker, Todd and Julie Baker, Brett Baker, Bart and Shelia Baker, Terrie Payne, Jerri and Gorge Payne, Scott and Shari Baker, James Baker, Leslie and Jason Saxton, Jason and Sue Baker, Jeremy and Jasmin Baker, Timothy Baker, Jennifer Lahm, Wendy Lahm, John and Tiffany Carter, and Buddy Carter; 19 great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Bob Greer of Lexington, a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Eileen Baker of Lexington, a sister, Etta Wiley of Michigan; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas R. Baker on February 3, 2009; a sister, Thelma Campbell; and three brothers, Clarence, Ralph, and Dale Baker
