He is best remembered as the host of the popular Walt Disney ABC television series "The Mickey Mouse Club" that initially aired each weekday from 1955 until 1959 and author of its theme song, "The Mickey Mouse Club March" (1955). Born James Wesley Dodd, he made his first film appearance in "Those Were the Days!" (1940), followed by "Flying Tigers" (1942, with John Wayne), "China's Little Devils" (1945, with Harry Carey), "Easter Parade" (1948, with Fred Astaire and Judy Garland), "Quicksand" (1950, with Mickey Rooney), "The Jackie Robinson Story" (1952), "The Winning Team" (1952, with Ronald Reagan) and "Phffft" (1954, with Judy Holliday and Jack Lemmon). In addition to writing songs for "The Mickey Mouse Club," he also composed and performed songs for Walt Disney's action-adventure western drama television series "Zorro" that aired from October 1957 until July 1959. His other television credits include "Adventures of Superman" and "Stories of the Century." He died at the age of 54.
