Race Car Driver. He was dubbed "The Greatest Driver Never to Win the Indy 500". From 1958 to 1977, he raced in the USAC Championship Car series with 177 career starts, including every Indianapolis 500 Race, 1960 to 1977. He finished in the top ten 88 times, with 7 victories, finished 3rd at Indy in 1964 and led the Indy 500 for 68 laps in 1966. He also raced in the 1961 United States Grand Prix. Together with driving partner Ken Miles, he won the 1965 Daytona 2000 km, 1966 24 Hours of Daytona, 1966 12 hours of Sebring and the World Sportscar Championship, 1966 and 1968. He was inducted into the Indianapolis 500 Hall of Fame in 1991, was honored at the Texas Motor Sports Hall of Fame in 2005 and was inducted into the Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame in 2008.
