EDENTON, N.C.--Henry Allison (Izze) Campen, 66, jeweler, civic and fraternal leader, died Sunday morning in his home at 301 S. Granville St., after an illness of five weeks.
A native of Tyrell County, he was the husband of Catherin Pruden Campen and a son of Joseph G. and Mrs. Ida Ward Campen.
He owned and operated Campen's Jewelry Store 47 years.
He was a member of Edenton Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the Masons, and a past Masonic district deputy grand master. He was a past master of Unanimity Masonic Lodge 7 and a Shriner.
He was a past president of Edenton Chamber of Commerce and a past president of Edenton Rotary Club.
A former scoutmaster, he was the recipient of the Silver Beaver, scouting's highest award.
He was the originator of the Edenton Halloween Party which became the largest free Halloween party in North Carolina.
He also instituted the first Lions Club minstrel show produced in Edenton.
Besides his widow, surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Catherine C. McMullan and Miss Allison Campen of Edenton and Mrs. Ida Campen Odom of Dover, Del.; a brother, Sidney Campen of Edenton; a sister, Mrs. Vivian Jordan of Elizabeth City; and three grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery by the Rev. R.N. Carroll. The family has requested that flowers be omitted and contributions made instead to the Shriner's Crippled Children Hospital in Greenville, S.C.
The body will be taken to Williford Funeral Home.
