Bernice Elizabeth Hanks

NEW RICHMOND - Bernice Elizabeth Hanks, 80, of New Richmond, formerly of Hanover, died Monday, July 30, 2007, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, following a long illness.

She was born Sept. 24, 1926, at Lincoln, the daughter of the late King Edward Adams and Brookie Elizabeth Bailey Adams.

She was a graduate of the Rommery School for the Deaf and Blind.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Commodore Marshall Hanks; and three infant sisters, Hazel, Marie and Robbie Adams.
Survivors include two sons, Robert L. Hanks and wife, Debra, of Rockhouse and Jack M. Hanks and wife, Brenda, of Morristown, Tenn.; a brother, Jessie Adams and wife, Shirley, of Rockhouse; three grandchildren, Jack Hanks Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Jennifer Steele of Lexington, N.C., and Samantha Hanks of Morristown; and a great-grandson, Justin Steele of Lexington, N.C.

Service will be noon today at Fanning Funeral Home Chapel, Iaeger, with the Rev. Gary Browning officiating. Burial will follow in Adams Cemetery, Rockhouse.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
