Born in Taunton, MA of Portuguese immigrants from the village of Candelaria, on the Island of Pico, in the Azores . "Little Annie", as she was called by her many friends, moved with her family to the Santa Clara Valley at the age of 5. She was raised in the Milpitas, California foothills with her 2 sisters and 5 brothers.
Ann was married to Henry Leavitt of Riverbank, California for 25 years. The true measure of an individual is the impact they have upon us. Ann had the ability to love unconditionally and accept people as they are. There were no boundaries to how far she would go to convey that love.
Ann hired on with Hewlett Packard in California at the young age of 60, when most people would retire. She worked there for 11 years. Ann was an active member of the Moose Lodge in San Jose, California participating in the many activities of that Lodge. Ann loved the San Francisco Giants, watching all of their games for many years and keeping score at most of the games. After moving to Oregon to live in her own home on her daughter, Kathy, and son-in-law's, property, she enjoyed working in her garden, meeting people at various church activities, attending Red Hat teas and spending time with her grandchildren.
Ann is survived by her 3 daughters, Sandra Fernandez of San Jose, California, Kathy Holmes and her husband, Danny of Albany, Oregon, and Sharyn Poor and husband Dale of Aptos, California. Seven grandchildren, Dee Leavitt, Sharel Doyle and husband Matt, Robert Leavitt, Nicole Markel and husband David, Dean Holmes, Mark Schwab, Tina McGlashan and husband Tyler. Nine great grandchildren, Jesse, Ian and Travis Markel , Jessica and Sarina Lieberman, Kyle Leavitt, Theo and Kira McGlashan and Meredith Doyle. Ann is also survived by her sister, Rose Coehlo of San Jose, California and numerous nephews and nieces. She will also be missed by her dear friend Peggy Williams who considered Ann her second Mom.
Ann was preceded in death by brothers Manuel, Joseph, Anthony, Frank, and John Madeiros and sister Mamie Lopes
Her legacy of commitment to her children and her family stood the test of time. Ann touched everyone she came in contact.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, September 12th at the Southside Church of Christ in Lebanon, Oregon. A Celebration of Life will also be held on Sunday, September 30th at the Villages Golf and Country Club Fairway Room in San Jose, California.
