"Muscatine Journal: This morning at 6 o'clock occurred the death of John Riley VanSickle at his home, 840 Cedar street, after an illness of only two days. The cause of death being peritonitis.
He was born December 16, 1850, in Wapello, Iowa, where he grew to manhood and was married to Miss Frona Stoughton. They were the parents of two children, Cleo Pearl, who died in infancy, and Mrs. Ada Baker, residing in this city.
The greater part of their married life was spent in Seneca, Florida, having moved back to Iowa about five years ago, where they have since resided in Muscatine.
Mr. VanSickle was a kind and loving husband and father, and the blow falling so suddenly makes it doubly hard to bear.
Years ago he united with the Presbyterian church of Seneca, Florida, and has always led a conscientious Christian life and will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, daughter, grandson, Vernie Gillispie, and also other relatives.
The funeral will take place Friday afternoon from the house at 2 o'clock. Interment in Greenwood cemetery."
