Obituary;
Mrs. Helen M. Buchtel, 75 years of age, only daughter of the late P. T. Barnum, circus king, and widow of Dr. William Harmon Buchtel, died at her home, 635 Emerson Street early yesterday morning following a sudden attack of grip and heart disease. Mrs. Buchtel had been a resident of Denver for forty-four years.

The decedent was the sole heir of the world-famous circus man, receiving from his estate the entire site of the present suburb of Barnum. Much of that property, however, was disposed of before her death.

Mrs. Buchtel, from the beginning of her residence in Denver, was socially prominent and deeply active in charitable affairs. She was a member of the Daughters of the Revolution and a member of the board of directors of the Denver Orphans home, which she helped to endow. She was one of the most interested workers in the parish of St. John's.

Mrs. Buchtel was born in Bridgeport, Conn., April 18, 1840. In 1871 she met and married Dr. Buchtel, shortly after the marriage making her home in Denver, where she has lived ever since. Dr. Buchtel was a brother of Henry A. Buchtel, chancellor of the University of Denver.

When a young woman, Mrs. Buchtel was a guest of honor at the first inaugural ball given by President Grant at the White house.

Mrs. Buchtel was feeling in her usual good health Friday, when she motored downtown and spent the afternoon shopping. Upon her return home, however, she complained of feeling badly. A physician was summoned but her condition rapidly grew worse. Shortly before midnight, it was seen that there was little hope for her recovery and her relatives and close friends were summoned.

She is survived by only two blood relatives, Mrs. Fred Chamberlain, a daughter, living at 667 Emerson street, and a granddaughter, Mrs. Henry Carrier, of North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held from her late home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Dean H. Martyn Hart officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery
