I believe this picture is Peter Trion who appears in the 1890 Special Veterans Census living in Shamokin. The reverse has "499 Rake" written in pencil. This was probably "Raker." Cornelius Raker was a popular photographer in Shamokin who retired in 1890.
I have this original photo. It is on a stiff paper card stock which has a browinish tone to it. The photo is approx. 5 x 6 inches in size. Unfortunately, someone in my family used a pencil to "restore" his lips. It has right-angled corners and no border. Is this a cabinet card? Please contact me if you think you can identify this type of photograph and when it was taken. The picture was kept by the family of his sister Lavina who moved to Philadelphia. The picture probably dates from about 1882 when Peter Trion, witness, signed George B. Kiehl's initial claim for a military pension.

On May 25, 1899, Peter Trion and Brown's son Charles left for Massillon, Ohio to try and convince E. S. Brown to return home to Shamokin where Brown had been the proprietor of the St. Elmo Hotel. Brown had experienced financial difficulties. On Saturday morning May 27th, when the Pennsylvania train drew up at the Shamokin station, E. S. Brown stepped from the cars and was greeted by a number of friends and acquaintances. He was accompanied by his son Charles and Peter Treon.

At the time of his death, he was a hostler at the Eagle hotel in Shamokin (1901-03 Boyd's Directory, 227).
