Mary was the daughter of Mary Dorothy Vail (1735-1775) and Joseph Leech (1720-1803).
She married in Craven Co., NC, September 24, 1788 Richard Dobbs Spaight.
They had four children:
1. William Wilson Spaight, b. Craven Co., NC, 1794, d. Craven Co., NC, 1812
2. Richard Dobbs Spaight II, b. Craven Co., NC, 1796, d. Craven Co., NC, 1850; elected Governor of North Carolina
3. Charles B. Spaight, b. Craven Co., NC, 1798, d. Craven Co., NC, 1831; life-long bachelor, studied law, served in legislature
4. Margaret Spaight, b. Craven Co., NC, 1800, d. Craven Co., NC, 1831; married Judge John Robert Donnell, d. 1864
