Obituary - Collins Burton Cannon, 85, of Idaho Falls, died August 16, 2003 in a drowning accident.

He was born Feb 19, 1918 in Salt Lake City, UT to Collins Telle Cannon and Ida May Burton Cannon. He graduated from the University of Utah with a BS degree in Civil Engineering. He later did postgraduate work at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.

He married Beth Innes on July 3, 1940. They were the parents of five children. Beth died in 1983. He later married Dorothy Joan Anderson Collins, who passed away in 1994. A close friend, Margaret Anderson, lives in Blackfoot.

He served on active duty with the United States Navy from June 1941 to Nov 1945, retiring from the Active Reserve with the rank of Captain in 1978. His civilian employment included engineering assignments with Utah-Idaho Sugar Company, Mountain States Steel Company, General Electric Company, and American Potato Company.

He was a long-time resident of Blackfoot, ID, where he served on the Board of Trustees for Blackfoot City Library, numerous civic committees, and the Employers Support Committee for the National Guard and Reserve. An ardent sportsman, he was a Trustee Emeritus of Ducks Unlimited. He most recently resided at the Fairwinds in Idaho Falls.

Survivors include his children, Collins Philip Cannon (Kay), Kearny, MO, Thomas Michael Cannon (Joani), Los Alamos, NM, Susan Forsberg (Perry), Centerville, UT, Julie Markham (Ben), Provo, UT, Mary Owen, (HL), Surfside Beach, TX; and his sisters, Ida Mae Smith of Salt Lake City, Janet Randall of Logan, UT, and Joan Innes of Buena Vista, CO; 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Elizabeth, a grandson, David, and a great-granddaughter, Katheryn.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Wed. Aug 27, 2003 at the Fairwinds on Sunnyside Drive in Idaho Falls. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Sat. at the Federal Heights LDS Chapel, 1300 Fairfax Rd, Salt Lake City. Collins will be interred at the family grave site in Salt Lake City. Local arrangement are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge, in Idaho Falls.
