Clara was a life-long member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church. Baptized as an infant she remained a faithful servant until her death. As a child she attended the Tennessee public schools. She obtained her degrees from Tennessee A & I State College in 1922.
She married Reverend Roger W. Barker, Sr. on April 23, 1924. This union lasted 51 years until his death in 1975. This happy union was blessed with three children, Roger W., Anne Lois Carroll and Charles (who preceded her in death).
Clara was a public school teacher and a volunteer for the foster grandparents program in Pleasantville, NJ.
Left to cherish her memory: a son, Roger W. of Camden, NJ; a daughter Anne Lois Carroll of Ontario, CA; two daughters-in-law, Marie Barker of Bowie, MD and Jessie Barker of Camden, NJ; five grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
