U.S. Congressman. He became a Baptist Church minister and had a perish near Wadesboro, North Carolina. In 1807, he presented credentials as a Federalist Member-elect to the Tenth Congress, served until 1808, was reelected to fill the vacancy declared by the House of Representatives, (1808-09), was elected as a Federalist to the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Congresses, serving (1813-17). In 1819, he was elected as a Federalist to the Sixteenth Congress, served until 1821, elected as an Adams-Clay Federalist to the Eighteenth Congress, served (1823-25) and elected as an Adams to the Twentieth Congress, serving (1827-29). He declined to be candidate for reelection, retired from public life and relocated to South Carolina, until his death at age 75.
