Earl was the oldest son of V.A. and Helen Byers Jones. Brother to Herschel, Wayne, and Shirley. Father of 4 children, three sons and one daughter.
Graduate of Eastern Illinois University. WW II service in the Coast Guard. Teacher and very successful high school basketball coach for 10 seasons (1947/48 to 1956/57) at Kankakee Sr. High School, where he was inducted into the KHS Athletic Hall of Fame posthumously in 2004. His 1951-52 squad was in the Illinois state basketball finals.
