Second son of V.A. and Helen Byers Jones. Brother to Raymond Earl, Wayne, and Shirley. Graduate of Eastern Illinois University, 1940. Served in WWII as a pilot in the Army Air Force, flying B29s. Teacher, coach, principal in Columbus, Georgia. Retired as a Colonel in the Air Force Reserves.

Husband of Betty Tobias (1928-1982) and Valerie Howell. Father of two sons; grandfather of five; great-grandfather.
