Born to Byron E. Monnette and Hattie Belle Jones Monnette (later Mrs. H. Beecher Dierdorf), and sister to I.R. Monnett, Alice was raised on the family farm in Marion County. She attended college for her teaching certificate which she received in 1913. Hazel died of T.B (contracted while nursing her father prior to his death in July 1915) in November 1915.
